Through a series of tableaux vivants we travel north, following a boy roaming through a deserted world. He wrestles and runs down dark tunnels and climbs endless stairs. He ends up in a snowy landscape, finds a boat and sets sail for fairytale, unspoilt islands. The tension of the void and the overwhelming landscapes create an ominous, hallucinogenic mood.

The film was shot in the old inner-city areas of Schiedam and Edinburgh and on the island of Røst in northern Norway. The story is loosely based around legends from the Netherlands, Scotland and Norway. Cinematic inspiration comes from silent film, Robert Bresson and David Lynch.

The images are set to music composed by Florian Magnus Maier. The music evokes the mystery, like voices on a gust of wind whispering a message to the boy. Polyrhythmic layers, unexpected turns and passionate Oriental melodies are juxtaposed with capricious, high-speed outbursts.

The music is performed by the Hungry Gods. This ensemble is made up of seven virtuoso musicians with a great diversity, both in their musical and cultural background. Percussion, violin, flamenco guitar, cimbalom, electric and acoustic guitar, bass, drums, electronics and the elegant contralto voice are combined in this unusual orchestra.

The film stands on its own as a short and is also performed as a similar concept with live accompaniment by the Hungry Gods.

Via een serie tableaux vivants reizen we naar het noorden, terwijl we een jongen volgen die ronddwaald door een verlaten wereld. Hij worstelt en rent door donkere tunnels en beklimt eindeloze trappen. Hij beland in een sneeuw-landschap, vind een boot en zet koers in de richting van sprookjesachtige, ongerepte eilanden. De spanning van de aanwezige leegte en de overweldigende landschappen scheppen een onheilspellende, hallucinerende sfeer.

De film werd opgenomen in de oude binnensteden van Schiedam en Edinburgh, en op het eilandje Røst in het noorden van Noorwegen. Het verhaal is losjes gebaseerd op legenden uit Nederland, Schotland en Noorwegen. De cinematografische inspiratie komt van de 'stomme' film, Robert Bresson en David Lynch.

De beelden worden gedragen op muziek van Florian Magnus Maier. De muziek evoceert het mysterie, als stemmen op een windvlaag die de jongen een boodschap influisteren. Poliritmische gelaagdheid, onverwachte keerpunten en gepassioneerde Oosterse melodieën wisselen elkaar af met capricieuze, razendsnelle uitbarstingen.

De muziek wordt uitgevoerd door het ensemble the Hungry Gods. Dit ensemble bestaat uit zeven virtuoze musici met een grote diversiteit, zowel wat betreft hun muzikale achtergrond als culturele afkomst. Percussie, viool, flamenco gitaar, cimbalom, elektrisch en akoestische gitaar, bas, drums, elektronica en de elegante altzang worden gecombineerd in dit ongebruikelijke orkest.

De film kan zowel op zichzelf staan als short, en worden uitgevoerd als cinema concert met live begeleiding door het ensemble the Hungry Gods.
